Light inside cage

dave15run May 03, 2008 08:37 AM

There are some cage designs being sold that have a light mounted inside the cage (at the top). Could this be harmful for the snake who climbs up to the top of the fixture? I want to get another cage but I would like to get an opinion from the more experienced herp guys and gals out there. Is this just being silly?

as long as the light either: 1. does not put off heat (only for viewing) or 2. has a screen or something around it that will not get hot to prevent your snake from direct contact to the heat source, will it be OK..
ie. if the snake can not come in direct contact with the light.. or close enough to burn him it will be alright...

I have been using this bulb for a couple of months now, I really like it. It is an enclosed spiral fluorescent that is only 3 watts! It is a very cool running bulb, and suppose to last nine years. I got it at Home Depot. It is equivalent of a 15 watt bulb, and really lights up the inside of a 36 x 18 cage pretty well. It is also dimmable, which is unique for a compact fluorescent bulb. Something to check out.
