Sick Eastern UPDATE

milksandbeer May 03, 2008 12:56 PM

First off, thanks to Doug and Jeff and others that gave advice.
To recap, my 3 y.o. male CB Eastern stopped eating in early Feb.
I had never brumated this snake, as he always ate through Winter and I did not plan to breed him.
I suspected all along that this snake was experiencing the teenage boy syndrome, active hormones and such.
I had kept the snake nice and fat and after 3 months of constant crawling around and up to temps without feeding, he still was not all that thin. This is why I decided to not try force feeding or medication just yet.
Long story short, I just kept trying to feed him every few days and last week he at last ate a small pink and has since eaten again and I think all is fine now.
Here he is, a neat Georgia locale animal...

On another note, here's a super nice Alabama syspila I flipped a few days ago. These guys are hard to find down here.

Those are both great snakes...that red is stunning! Nice find. Sounds like it was just teenage boy hormones like suspected on that eastern.

Hey!,...now THAT is great news!,....I certainly didn't do much, but we were able to kick a few ideas around. The important thing is it finally ate. Yeah, those sexual instincts are sure strong sometimes..as you can surely attest to now..LOL!

Awesome snake's BTW!!!, Hope it, and the others continues to chow-down well for you.

best regards, ~Doug

I have a few 06 females that are in the same boat. When easterns feed they go like gangbusters for a while then just stop. Remember my pics from a few months ago of a 06 looking like a stuffed sock? To look at him today you wouldnt know it was the same snake. I have had some adults go 8 months without eating before....they are a little peculiar like that.

Yeah,..that is pretty weird when compared to most other milks,...I'm thinking that it could very well be because of their colder geographical location as compared to most other milks, as their regions get extremely cold....just an interesting thought possibly.

Nice milks!

My albino eastern male is going through the same thing yours did. He ate a ton between December and March 10th, but hasn't eaten since. And just as in your case, he doesn't look to have lost much weight, so we'll just wait it out.
