question for Don (SMR) if you get time

draybar Aug 30, 2003 05:23 PM

Hey Don, I know you are busy this time of year with all of your hatchlings but I thought I would ask a question.
In a post below,
http://forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=150724,150928
I showed a picture of the ghost and okeetee I got from you last year.
I was wondering about the ghost.
I have checked pictures of your ghosts but I haven't really seen any that have stayed as light as mine.
He is now one year old and hasn't really darkened at all.
I love this..
My question is this.. do you have some adult ghosts that have stayed this light or do you think he will begin to darken?
Here is another picture I took last night.
The pictures are a touch blurry and if anything show him just a little darker then he truly is.

I have many of them that stay light as adults. I think there is an exponential hypomelanistic affect. The more you breed good hypo corns to good hypo corns, the more dark pigment is lost 'till the snake finally disappears. Just kidding about the last part, but seriously I find that each generation of my hypos and ghosts gets lighter than the previous one.

That's a beautiful ghost. If you have another one, we'd love to see a comparative picture of both of them. I need to do more of those comparative shots myself, but it's to time consuming to convince two snakes to hold still for the same picture.

Take care,

Don

Hello Don,

the problem is that the camera can´t catch the differences we can see with our eyes. evertime I made these shots I´m dissapointed that the difference is not as strong as you can see it on your own.

It is sooo hard to capture their true appearance and the subtleties of their colors.

Thansk for the reply,
Unfortunately that is the only ghost I have at this time.
I think you sent me one of the nicest ghosts I have seen. Of course, I may be a little predjudiced considering it is mine...LOL
