red rat & ever rat housing

board917 May 03, 2008 08:09 PM

I have a 4 foot red rat and a 2 foot everglades rat. I want to house them together... is this possible? I just build my red rat a terrarium that is 2 feet by 2 feet and 4 feet tall. I want to put both snakes in there. I dont think the red would eat the everglades but i could be wrong.

4' and 2' just seems risky; the smaller snake is definitely food-sized.

Additionally, you can have dominance issues, especially considering the difference in size.

So, you should ask yourself. Is putting the two snakes together worth the risk of losing the smaller one to stress or ophiophagy? If you don't mind it if your larger snake eats the smaller one, and you don't mind if the smaller one may be severely stressed by the presence of the larger one, then it's your call. But personally, I'd just keep them separate.

ive kept a corn and a black rat together for 10 years, and both were totally fine, but 1 was 4ft and the other 5ft. you should atleast wait another year and then the everglades should have grown closer in size to the corn, if you do decide to house them together. al my other snakes have been kept seperate.
