bahavior question

RoadSpawn May 03, 2008 09:06 PM

Here is the situation. When I approach him to take him out, he runs and tries to avoid me. The good is that he will not attempt to bite. Once I have him he cools down. He licks my hand, looks around and his eyes are not bulging. I can feed him and pet him. He will hang out on my shoulder without any problems. Once I put him back in his enclosure and get near him by walking by, he will shoot across his enclosure. I don't get it. Thanks

Because it's a natural 'fight or flight' response that small, young reptiles have when they are afraid that something substantially larger is going to eat them!

It's a slow process that takes time. Some call it building trust, but it's a conditioning process of the hand appears...nothing bad happens...over and over.

Thanks for the reply.
I've been reading everything I come across. There is so much out there. My guy seems pretty calm compared to what I've read about others. I'll keep working with him. Thanks again.
