Cottonhead

choppergreg74 May 03, 2008 09:21 PM

I am not a fan of Hybrids. But I think a couple of years ago I saw a pic of a cottonmouth x copperhead cross. Maybe it was in the classifieds or the photos. Does any one remember this? Any way I was talking to someone today about Kisatche cornsnakes. They are a natural intergrade between a Corn and an Emoryii. We were also talking about Gabinos, and how they could happen in nature. Has this happened with Coppers and Cottons in nature; that any one is sure of? Just thought I would spice things up on this fourm a bit. Cheers Greg

To the best of my knowledge all cottonheads are true hybrids created in captivity. The Kisatchie is not an intergrade and has be given full species status Pantherophis slowinskii

Thanks for the info. I did not know that about either. Are there any pics out there of the cotton heads that you are aware of?

is the only one I know of having them. His website, Coastalreptiles.com, has been changing a lot lately and seems like it's down right now. That's the only place I know of where pics used to located. They are awesome crosses, but I support anything copperheads are involved in.

I really gotta get around to trying this project myself, just never find a nice female cotton to pair up with this male.

Ryan,

I did spend a good bit of time redoing the whole site. www.mardisnipes.com points to the same site. coastalreptiles.com should be back shortly. I just had to renew it. Click the link below for the photo album with the hybrid pics.

nice cottonmouths on your site! I found a silver and black one in cedar key last summer. I did not get any photographs or keep it bgecause I do not have a vr permit at the moment. It would of been perfect to add to your collection and prove it out as an anery!
