Cost of Reverse Stripe

zampano23 May 04, 2008 06:17 PM

My boyfriend and I are looking to buy a male reverse stripe red tail suriname boa constrictor. We found a possible breeder who is charging us $750. We don't expect it to be cheap but we were just wondering if this is a fair price or not.

Let us know what you think!

Thank you!!

Anything, is worth what you are willing to pay. Personnaly, I would not give five bucks for any Mrph Boa in the world, but I have paid very handsomely for quality Locale B.C.C. If it is what your looking for and it's health is without question and the breeder checks out, buy it.........John J

I'd like to mirror some of what John said. Any animal (or any unique "thing" really) is worth what the highest bidder is willing to pay for it. If you feel the animal is worth $750, buy it. But you should definitely consider MANY factors before dishing out the cash.
Age, sex, parents, WC/CB/CBB, overall health, feeding history, your plans for the future (breeding), etc...
$750 is on the high side for a BCC THAT IS ADVERTISED. However, LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS of BCC go for MUCH more than that between enthusiasts and you won't see those animals advertised on kingsnake and many times, not even pictured on the forum before or after the sale. I know of several animals that were top quality (in all respects) that have recently sold for well over $2000. I have been offered multiple times that for my favorite female (she isn't leaving though).
So, the price could be too high, too low, or just right, depending on various factors.

Another thing that can add to the monitary value/cost is valid paperwork substanciating where the ancestors were collected. Reputation of the seller and reputation specifically for locality boas can play a part too.

I think the going rate for a reverse striped Guyana or Surinam is in the $500.00 and up range depending on how much of a reverse stripe there is...also whether it's c.b.b. or an import. If it's healthy and looks good and has maybe 25% - 50% reverse striping...$750.00 should be fine.

Good luck and post pics if you get him!
