Bosc Feeding problem

mikepharo May 04, 2008 11:27 PM

I have a 2 foot bosc's that I acquired 2 weeks ago. The day I got it, it was fed it's first full sized mouse. One week later I gave it another full size which it ate with no problems. Now, a week later, for the past 3 days it has shown no interest in feeding. I am concerned because I haven't ever heard of feeding problems with these notoriously voracious feeders. There have been no noticiable changes in behaviour, please help!

Huh? You're only feeding it once a week?
These aint snakes and need to eat often.
Tell us about your set up and we'll more than likely find the problem.
Better yet, post a picture of it along with substrate, temps, humidity and basking surface temps.

Obviously I am aware of that, but I have no way of mending it because it won't eat. It has a basking spot of about 90 and is in a 4x2x2 enclosure with a large litter tray of water and i mist it in the mornings only.

It won't eat because your husbandy's all wrong.
You need a basking spot temp of around 130 degrees, measured with a temp gun, not a thermometer.
It needs a variety of temps, ranging from the 90's to low 70's.
Is this cage perhaps an aquarium? Screen top?
Give us a detailed descipition with pictures and we can help.
Go to ProExotic.com and order the savannah monitor book and a temp gun.
Read through their FAQ.

Just as I suspected. Scott's right, it needs a much hotter basking spot.

The low temps coupled with sparse feeding has set your monitor into "conserve" mode. They shut down & wait for better conditions.

Later!
