Ticks on eggs.

RyanT May 05, 2008 09:38 AM

I just found a large tick and 2 small ones on a clutch laid this morning. Suprised me, being that they're from a female I've had for 2 years. I just read something on here about this recently, but is there anything I need to worry about? I of course killed and flushed them. And nothing's caused any problems the whole time I've had her. But are there any extra precautions or cleaning procedures I should take now? I'm assuming a vet visit for internal parasite treatment couldn't hurt right? Thanks for any direction. Ryan.

getting a fecal done for internal parasites doesn't hurt anything, but it doesn't have anything to do with ticks, which are strictly external.

look over the female closely for more. give her a few days to recover, and then use some BK-II to eliminate any more ticks and eggs.

Are you sure about putting a pesticide on eggs? I would just remove the ticks with tweezers and check the female as well . David

I think he was referring to the tick eggs.

Sorry my mistake I was going off the topic title (ticks on Eggs ) and they are right , to get rid of tick eggs you need to spray every 7 days till no more hatch out , but I would not spay the snake eggs to kill the tick eggs .all you can do is pick them as they hatch and get big enough to see .or you can risk moving the snake eggs to a different container . Thanks for pointing that out as I had misread it . David

yes, ticks and tick eggs : )

i would let the female ball recover for a day or two, get rehydrated, and then treat her setup with BK-II.

you can pull the ticks off the eggs directly, and no, i wouldn't treat the ball python eggs at all : )
