Moving house when due, advice needed?!

s_bo May 05, 2008 01:37 PM

I have 2 boas due in June, one on the 26th, the other on the 27th. I have just found out that I am moving house at the end of June!
I have a choice of 2 weekends that I can move, the 21/22nd or 28/29th. Which one do I choose?!
I don't want to disturb them so close to giving birth so do I chance it that they will both have their litters on time and move on the later dates, or get it over with as early as possible. I'm only moving 10 minutes down the road but they will realistically be out of their vivs for a good couple of hours.

Any advice appreciated
Sam

I'd get them moved early since it's a short distance.

I'm sure you are going to get reasons for both choices. I'd personally move them later. If you induce labor with the move, at least you'll have had an extra week of gestation if she hasn't had them by then.

This way, if they get upset enough to dump them before they would normally do so, you have the best chance of them being just fine on the later dates than the earlier ones. Have fun and let us know what happens!

I'd have to agree to move as late as possible. Giving the babies more "cook" time is always good if you may be doing anything that could induce labor.

A couple of ideas....

Could you make some sort of next box that you could close off? Like a tub with a hole in the lid (or even no lid while in the cage) then swap lids (or put it on) for the move so you would not have to pick her up, only pick up the tub she is already in.

Heat pad and dimmer for the move so even if out of the viv, still keeping warm?

Be prepared for babies, have housing ready to go.

Is it possible to move them to a relatives/buddies house now? Before they are all bloated and if a seperate move, might be a quicker one!

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll definately go with the later date. I like the tub idea, well worth a go!
This is my first year with boas so don't want a silly thing like moving house getting in the way!
Thanks again
Sam
