lost eastern milk

ameratsnake May 05, 2008 09:07 PM

last june I lost my 06' eastern milk. I searched for him and searched for him but to no avail. I was pretty upset about it and by january I gave up looking and figured him for dead! 15 minutes ago I walked into my snake room and someting at my feet imediately caught my attention. what the $#! , is that what I think it is? Yup! alive and well to my suprize. I think I'll give him some water and a hide and wait a couple days before I try feeding him, but I think he'll be OK. I mean he has been in the wall or something for about 9 months.

why wait?

right after my last post. the only reason I wanted to wait is because this particular snake was always a very finicky eater and has been easily stressed in the past. but you will be as happy as I was to know that he has become a monster since his little excursion and devoured two pinkies last night and seems to have plenty of energy. I will give him one or two more tomorrow night, then saturday night, and so on and so fourth, until he is at good sustainable body weight. I thank you for your concern Rusty, and your advice. Jerry

I took this pic today. the light stripe down his back is actually a loss of pigment the scales are still there. all of the bright colored babies from his clutch have this mutation. don't know what caused it because they didn't have it when they hatched.

I personally wouldn't push him that much for the first month or two. It might be too much of a shock to it's system after being without food for so long. Randy W.

That is my opinion as well. I would NOT cram as much food into a snake as possible either after going so long with nothing, or at best, minimal food for that long a period. That's just asking for trouble, and I've seen that happen all too often.

I'll just keep him on a weekly feeding routine. by the way he's about an 18" snake so one or two new born pinks is still a small meal. he was eating fuzzies every three days unless in shed. the advice is much appreciated. Jerry
