substrate for blackthroat

i have i baby black throat only about a foot long and i have cypress mulch for bedding right now but i know they need dirt and alot of it. my question is what is the best dirt i can get for them and where can i get it?

dirt is all around you. the problem is, most of it doesn't work well.

try starting with the Home Depot mix of topsoil/sand/vermiculite in a 50/25/25 mix. it digs well, burrows well, holds water well, and will give you a base to work and learn with.

from there, you will have a better idea of what makes a good soil, and you can start looking at other soils available locally to you.
