Breeding Kingsnakes.

OneSexyWookie Feb 07, 2003 09:35 AM

I was hoping to look this up, but I can't seem to get any hits when I do a search.

One question really, how much of a Cal-King's pattern is determined strictly by gentetics...? For example, if I bred a high-white to a high-white, would I get mostly high-white babies, or is it pretty random like that...? Or banana to banana...? 50/50 to 50/50, etc...? I know if you breed albinos, you should get mostly albinos, but does that work with other morphs as well...?

I'm not a gene-whiz, so I may be asking this akwardly, I appologize.

In cal kings High White is not recessive, but dominant, just like striping; whereas albinism is recessive. You can combine these.

50-50 cal king, the more you breed back the more white can show up. Also you can produce some really nice High Whites from parents that don't look as good.

This came from parents that were both het for albinism.

Combining a dominant gene(striping) with a recessive gene (albinism)..

What would you think a matchup like this would produce...? The first one is my male. The second one is not my photo, but my brother's female looks alot like that one:

NOTE: This isn't my picture(forgot the owner), but his looks alot like this one.

* banded
* High White like one of the parents
* possibly a better looking High White
* and mostly aberrants with a lot white
* and if they are both het for albinism....

IMO

Kerby, I always love seeing that High White Albino. How old is he now? Oh, and since it's been awhile since I've been able to post, I'll post a pic of one of mine . Angel my Albino Snow Cal-King

2004, cause the female might not be big enough this year. My original Albino High White was hatched in 2000 and I used him last year as a breeder, in the mean time I produced another albino High White in 2001(female) that I am going to breed to him this year. They are siblings, but one year apart, and last year I produced a few more (the one pictured in the other post was from last year-2002) and sold some of those. This year should produce some more awesome and hopefully better snakes.
