eastern plains garter?

boxienuts May 06, 2008 10:18 PM

A good friend of mine found this garter in his yard located in eastern Iowa, so I put it in the tub to take pictures, I'm pretty sure it is a male eastern plains garter, but wanted to post it on here to get confirmation of what species it is for certain.
Thanks in advance
Jeff

Thanks

That is a plains garter...they do have a little variation in colors...they aren't eastern or western plains...just plains garters. nice looking little snake!

Here's my Plains garter! Jeff

See that is more typical, with the orange stripe. I guess I have just seen it listed as eastern and western in literature based on range. Thanks for the replies.

I just saw an article while "googling" garter snakes that referred to an eastern plains garter! Jeff
