Simple question

brianlovescheese May 07, 2008 12:17 PM

I've breed corns before and it wasn't that hard...I just had a quick simple question for the breeders on here. My girlfriend has a 55 gallon tank with two adult balls. A male and a female...we have never seen them even try to breed. Just last week the male leaves the hid that they normally stay curled up in and he won't have anything to do with her at all. The same time this happened she became an eating machine. Is there certain things I should be looking for to check for her being gravid? Anyway, I'm guessing I should prolly seperate them for a while. Any help would be great.

Thanks
Brian

do you keep the two together all the time? did you cool them down before you tried to breed them? i am pretty new to the ball scene but alot of people say that if you plan on breeding it is best to keep them seperated. and that you need to give them a temp change to get them ready to breed. next season will be my first breeding season i hope shes ready to go by then.

We actually did not do a thing, they stay the same temp all year long and I was hoping they wouldn't breed. They are just her pets. Great animals, but I didn't want to risk any health problems with her until my pastel male reached breeding size which is just about Nov of this year by my estimates. The male has been off feed for almost 6-7 months now. The female went off at about the same time but she is a monster now, he just won't have anything to do with her. Just really tring to figure out whats wrong or whats going on so she will stop worrying about it.

i dont think they will breed but hey you never know. but most people say they wont breed if they are kept together all year, but im sure it does happen on occasion

Yeah so I guess I need to do some reading for the gravid symptoms, lol. I was hoping they wouldn't. But I guess it'd be nice to have some babies around for a bit.

Markus Jayne has a great breeding pictorial page which breaks down the entire process from start to finish. Check it out, it is very informative.
