Ouch... They Bite?

cod6545 Aug 30, 2003 08:43 PM

Hey- I had just gotten done soaking and feeding my two three month old Redfoots for the night. I was getting their night pen ready, and they were walking around on the ground. All of the sudden- I feel something nibbling and biting at my toe. It was my pride and joy tortoise- Mr. Bayer. I picked him up and put him in the palm of my hand. He almost immediately bit my pointer finger. I wonder why? That was the fist time he has ever bitten me. Did he think I was a predator? Did he mistake me for cantaloupe? Thanks. Brooks

Yeah, most likely he mistook you for food. Redfoots are omnivoures. Watch painted toenails and fingernails, especially red!

Definately looking for food. I'd be really surprised to see otherwise in a tortoise.
