POST-INTELLIGENCER (Seattle, Washington) 30 August 03 Second escaped python startles a homeowner
Everett: A South Everett man opened his front door yesterday and found an escaped 7-foot python slithering through his yard.
It was the second loose python found in the area this month.
The homeowner called 911 to report the unwelcome visitor. An animal control officer responded, checked the snake's attitude and then picked up the reptile and put it in a cage in the back of his van, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office.
Last week, a park ranger found a similar-size python in Everett's Silver Lake, said Officer Ken Harmer of the Everett Animal Shelter, which generally takes in about 10 loose snakes a year.
"It's like anything new and exotic -- people get tired of them," he said. "It definitely comes in spurts, and you never know for sure what you're going to get."
The Burmese python was in excellent condition, he said. The shelter will keep the snake for 72 hours to see if the owner claims it. If not, it will try to place the reptile with a herpetological society or the Washington Serpentarium and reptile zoo east of Monroe, which gave the first python a home.
