Terrible Two's

Has anyone else had a problem with a naughty and willful lizard? It's like having a toddler all of a sudden.

She pushes anything she doesn't want in her turtle hut, it has become the equivalent of a reptilian shed. Paper substrate, paper plates, food she doesn't want, anything she doesn't want is pushed in the turtle hut. She picks at her greens and only eats them when she wants but I offer every day. She used to sleep in it, it has a warming pad (not very hot) inside that has been off since the weather got warmer, now she sleeps outside of it or on the branch.

Her tank is 6' long and in the other end is a large sand box. She has heat and a bright light and a UVB strip. We take her out and let her have the run of the house (with proper lizard-proofing) and she runs everywhere. She's very active going up and down stairs and wherever she wants. We bought one of those "cat trees" for the living room and it has little ladders for her to climb and the cubby has a warm pad too.
She eats butter worms and mealworms, used to be crickets but i stopped that about a month ago. She will nibble at squash and greens (fresh every day). She has been off her feed the past 2 days but she hasn't pooped in a while either, just passing a little white stuff so I gave her a warm soak tonight.

She's good when I hold her but I can't understand why she won't dive into her greens, she ate them like a champ when she was a baby (she just turned 14 months) and why she is suddenly re-arranging her tank. She'll nibble one or two things from my hand but i can tell she's humoring me.

Has anyone else had such a personality change? Thanks, sorry it's so long but I wanted to give a good description of her environment. This picutre is after fresh paper and before she shoved it all in the hut.

Thanks.

I'd bet she's searching for a mate.

no way - really? she's .... ahem .... having "Needs"?

How do I get her to simmer down and go back to eating and being good? Should I take her out more and let her run it off? She's only 1yr old.

Beardeds are very funny when it comes to their needs and they are not shy about it either. Just give it some time she should snap out of it.

she should calm down on her own...she could be wanting a mate, she may have eggs in her and be looking for a good spot to lay. check her belly for eggs, they feel like soft marbles. keep checking her everyday for this. females can create and lay eggs with or without a male. without a male they just wont be fertile of course.

if she doesnt calm down come the late summer to fall, brumate her, it may help

to say she is not shy is an understatement - she is the boldest lizard I have ever seen.

I didn't feel any eggs when I bathed her last night but I wasn't looking for it either. I will check again when I get home from work. She has a big sandbox that she digs in sometimes so she knows it is there. I didn't realize that 1yr was sexual maturity. Maybe I'll put a small cardboard box on one end of the sand box so it looks like a hidey.

Thanks everyone. We just want to keep her happy, she has 3 humans at her beck and call who wish she could speak.

One of my females hatched 8/8/07 laid her 2nd clutch of infertiles last week. I'd mate her but I don't have any suitable males for a 350 gram female right now.
