Interesting Observation

FunkyRes May 07, 2008 11:49 PM

Today - I took out my male '06 Okeetee. He's about 38 inches long or so - not exact measurement, but just over 3 feet. While handling him - I decided to see how he would react to my female '07 Okeetee. She's a few inches over 2 feet - eats 2 weanlings a meal, I think 105g last time I weighed her, been a little while - I only weigh after a shed, so that I don't end up weighing a partially un-digested meal.

Both of them went tongue crazy - as expected, but then something happened I did not expect - which I immediately interrupted. He started lining up his body with hers and twitching - the same twitching my getula males do when trying to get some action from the ladies.

It would be extremely risky so I ain't gonna do it - but I would not be surprised if my female '07 Okeetee is biologically breedable now.

Anyway - that's one of the reasons not to cohab. They may breed before you can even imagine that they are ready.

If you were to put this on the kingsanke forum you could start another verbal war between Frank Retes and everyone else!!

I'm kind of scared of putting a small king with a large king for social interaction ...

This is the female that got my boy all excited

I don't think she's even a year old yet. She's a product of Bayou Reptile (Rob & Louise Stevens) and I don't think he had any Okeetee's out of the egg this time last year.

The pic is right after she ate two feedings ago.

definitely a good point to not put two corns together even if they are young!
Nice looking snake, BTW
