tank Q

ravensmom May 08, 2008 12:11 AM

I plan on getting a corn when the show comes to town.

My question is, I have a 20 gal long and I have a zoo med large tank. It is 24 high 18 wide as well as deep.

I used safe silicone to attach branches that come out from the back and sides with the idea of basking and climbing in mind.
I had bought this tank orginally for dart frogs or frog in general but after much reading and research I deciced that the high humidity would not be good for my asthma.

So I'm wondering if this would be a better tank for a corn than the 20 long. Would they like the height and the chance to climb and bask under a very low watt bulb? The top is screen, the front opens as the door.
It locks as well and at one time held anoles as well as the babies they hatched so it is escape proof.
What do you think?
thanks for any replies.

In my opinion the 20 long would be much better. Its better to have the larger floor space that hight, I don't know how much I would trust those branches, seems like an injury waiting to happen.

>>ok thank you

actually I think it sounds like a nice set up.
BUT..if you are palnning to get a neonate then I would start iy out in a much smaller enclosure.
Too large of an enclosure for a small snake can sometimes stress them out leading to a porr feeding response.
If you are getting a neonate then something like a 6 quart sterilite container will do well as a starter enclosure. They do better with nice tight quarters when younger. When it gets a little older and more active then you can switch it over to the larger enclosure.
And save the 20 gallon for the next snake you get...because they are addictive and you will end up with another one.....lol

It really is a cool set up, the branches are more like smooth pieces of drift wood that I siliconed on, they are on there good so I believe they would be safe even for a full grown corn.

When you work it out into gallons it comes out to about 26 but it is taller than floor space.

I was really hoping it would work for a snake as I will never be able to recoup even close to retail, plus what I added, the wood was not cheap!

When the rep show comes I'd like to find maybe a little bigger blizzard corn or a bubblegum striped snow corn (love the pink.) Both are so cool looking to me.

The little tiny snakes are too small for me I'd rather pay more and have a little bigger one and not have to worry so much.

The first snake I bought was a full grown 4 almost 5 foot Mexican Black King, who is a sweetie I named Raven.
Thank you for your reply.

Do you have any pictures of this cage? I'd like to see it with some aspen and exo terra pants in there. I'm always open to new ideas for another corn setup! I think if you're not a heavy breeder, cage setups are one of the funnest things about keeping corn snakes.
