Anybody handle their kings in spring?

Br8knitOFF May 08, 2008 06:31 PM

I don't put any of my snakes down yet (still young), but man o man, are they ever feeling the season change!

I can't get near 1/2 of them without them trying to eat my fingers, and even though they are still young, they seem super restless trying to find themselves a date!

Does anybody handle their kings this time of year?

I have a 6' bredli python (centrilian carpet) that I can't get NEAR now without him trying to take my hand off!

My pits are more active, especially my big female, but not aggressive at all...

Oh yeah, I handle my kings this time of year. Not as much as my pits, but yep, I sure do. My kings never try to bite.

This hypo cal king gets excited though, but I have not been bitten yet....

My Kingsville Red Bullsnake is my only snake currently that tries to launch herself onto me in attack mode, every now and then, but this is while she is still in her cage with the lid on..ha ha!!!

Here she is on one of her calmer days...

Billy,
You should come over one of these days and try take out the MBK male I got from Tom- he's satan... (the same one that doesn't like to be tickled while sleeping under his water bowl... haha!)

..on second thought, make that the bredli- I want to see you stick your hand in and try to take him out!

Regardless of how many times I've seen that photo, it still makes me cringe.

What kind of python is that?

DMong May 09, 2008 09:45 PM

Yes, I can't say that guy is having an enjoyable time holding the snake!..LOL!....It's a very green colored Australian "Scrub" Python(Morelia amythistinus kinghorni), also known as an Amythistine Python. They are known to be pretty nasty, as that one clearly demonstrates!..LOL!

take care!, ~Doug

I don't know, Doug. The human face does resemble a wombat joey.

DMong May 10, 2008 08:32 AM

Some human faces can look MUCH more animal-like than others!..LOL!!

I handle my Cal king year-round. I probably won't breed her, so I don't cool her off in winter either. I've had her for about six years so, she's pretty used to my habits (and vice versa).

viborero May 09, 2008 08:01 AM

HA! Sorry, Todd. Couldn't resist that one. I don't have any problems with my Cals, MBK's, Knobs, or Pyros. Or any other snakes, for that matter. I have an Everglades Rat that would just as soon rip my face off, but that's a year round trait...

Yup- I know, but man, they are PIGS!

Hungry king scent from handling any other snakes in the collection = swallow attempt of any/all fingers.

Ha My males go off feed and you could use them as a tow strap if you put a females scent on the bumper! They don't care about food once they had one or two meals out of brumation, I can handle them but they really keep the search mode going, especially once out of the cage!!!
