Boaphiles v. Freedom Breeder 48 "

xrayeric1993 May 08, 2008 09:04 PM

Would someone compare and contrast Boaphiles and Freedom breeders. I have experience with Boaphiles, but none with Freedom Breeders. Which would you prefer and why?

Take a look at Animal Plastics or ARS Caging as alternatives to both.

I really don't like the idea of an assembled cage that I'm required to seal. However, I do favor the AP cage sizes and glass doors. I have considered the ARCS caging system, but they are more expensive as compared to Freedom Breeders and don't offer a 48 inch model.

AP Cages are great and they are very, very easy to seal....

Plus they can be broke down so you can move them easier, if the need arises.

AS far as ARS I find that they are cheaper on every thing some what limited on the product but they all stack together, well most of the units. Also they don't use expanded metal grate they use punched sheet metal, no rub wounds.

Good Luck

I had a Boaphile and believe it is a good cage at a competitive price. I had one minor problem that I easily resolved. I had 2X heat and my temps were too low when it was placed on a desk. The desk top is formica over particle board. That's pretty dense material and should not have created a heat loss issue. I resolved it by placing a 24x48 2" thick sheet of rigid insulation under the cage. Temps shot up right away.
I've had such a good experience with my AP racks and their service, that I would consider their cage over the boaphile next time around. I like and consider it a benefit to be able to disassemble and easily relocate or transport the cage or their racks. Cages and racks get moved, collections change and with those changes a cage may no longer be needed. It's much easier and less expensive to ship a disassembled cage. Higher resale value as well.
Just my opinion.
