Anyone know of a good Vet Med Book?

aanata1 May 08, 2008 10:22 PM

I was interested in getting a good text on veterinary medicine pertaining to reptiles. I have a bio and chem degree, so I have the background education, and was just wondering if anyone knew of a good one. It seems most herpetology books aren't as medicine based. Thanks!

Reptile Medicine and Surgery by Douglas R. Mader. (I think Mader has another one, too.)

Reptile Care: An Atlas of Diseases and Treatments by Fredric L. Frye

What's Wrong With My Snake (Advanced Vivarium Systems) by John Rossi and Roxanne Rossi

Understanding Reptile Parasites (Advanced Vivarium Systems) by Roger Klingenberg

The Mader and Frye books are professional level and are expensive. The Mader book is the more recent. You might want to look at them through interlibrary loan before buying.

The Rossi and Klingenberg books are relatively inexpensive pagerbacks. They are targeted to herp keepers and are good at that level. I have met Klingenberg; he's a veterinarian.

Blackwell Publishing has a variety of Veterinary Medicine books. I have bought a dozen or so from them and they do carry a line of exotic medical books. I think it's 30 days to return it if you find it unacceptable although I tend to keep all my books.
