They seem to range quite a bit as far as weights go. I've got a couple of 9/07 & 10/07 that are at low 90gms and an 8/07 that's 170gms. I've got a 10/04 that's 1100gm and an 8/05 that's 1250gm. A couple of mid '06s are in the mid 700gm range. Those are the cards that are within reach, hope it helps.

brick1 May 13, 2008 10:42 PM

thanks for that, yeah i have a sort of weird range like that. I have some 11/07's that where 1.1 are in the 80-90grams range, and 1.1 that are in the 130grams range. Also a 11/06 who is about 330grams, but im sure i did not feed him enough when first go him.
Then my two big females born 03/04 are weighing in at 2500 and 2900grams!!!! my big girls look nicely shaped, and not overweight. But it would be interesting to know what an overweight BRB looks like. I know what a underweight one does, as sneaky bastard was very underweight when he arrived

I weigh mine about once every once in awhile, kind of as it occurs to me. Because of their metabolism, I'm not real hung up on their weights, you never know what part of digestion they're in and if they've been "stacking it up", so to speak.

As long as they look healthy and appear in good weight, I'm happy. I'm not a power feeder, I kinda figure they'll mature when they mature so I dont push the groceries on them. I've got some healthy snakes here, but I dont think I have any that are obese. I do have a few snakes that are too skinny, one's a special case and one's learning to eat thawed...now that I've figured out he likes quail liver parked on the face of a thawed fuzzy, he's eating like a champ and should pick up the weight in no time!

quail liver!! how many other things did you have to try before you came up with that one??

lol...not too many, I went there pretty quick after he skipped a few meals. I have week old quail in the freezer for the ferrets and I understand wild BRB enjoy a bird from time to time. When lil' Mr Flasher decided he didnt do dead, I stuffed a fuzzy in some quail blood to entice him. It worked ok, but the quick feeding response I was hoping for. The last few times I got some of the meaty bits out and planted them on the face of the fuzzy, then offered it with tongs. Bam! He goes for it every time so far. FWIW, he's a 52gm yearling. I'd like to see more mass on him, but he's not dangerously skinny, just a bit thin.

lol, was wondering how you 1) had quail livers 2) knew what part was the liver

Liver's pretty easy to spot on any animal, it's the big brownish red thing that has 3 lobes. It covers most of the stomach area. Sorry, I'm a biology and chemistry nerd... it's my specialty in life

Totally agreed, many try to rush the process while in the wild they might take four or more years to mature. As long as healthy looking, not fat, not scrawney, then is good. Each is a unique individual and some will grow faster/larger than others. I feed based on individual snake.

Dave,
...They are born around 18 inches long and weighing 30 grams. Growth rates anywhere from half an inch to two inches per month for the first 18 months are okay. I have recently been measuring quite a few as I post ads selling them. I will weigh and post lengths with weights for some of them.

cheers jeff, yeah just thought someone out there must have researched it a bit. I mean you always see talk about retics and burms, and what they should or shouldnt weigh etc. Is more for just my interest really.
