5200 Gram Normal Female Laying Eggs

lavenderalbino May 09, 2008 04:55 PM

I posted pics of this girl on a scale last week showing her weigh at over 5200 grams. I came home today and she is dropping her clutch. She is carrying 17 eggs and I said I would post pics of her on her clutch. I set up a video camera and I am taping the whole process. I am also going to take serial pics of her laying which I will post when she is done so folks will be able to tell that she laid all 17 eggs. This will be the largest clutch we have ever had as our previous record was 14 eggs. This girl was bred to a genetic stripe. This is fun!!

I'm not sure if 17 will be the record or not. Seems like I heard of an import laying 18 or 19 once.

But what about a hatch record? Maybe if all 17 of yours hatch (heck, could even be twins in that many) that would be a record.

I just picked up one of my girls back from a breeding loan that laid 14. I'm proud of her (even if I didn't have much of anything to do with it) but a few of her eggs are moldy already so that clutch will be well off the record pace. I’ll have to start feeding her rabbits to build for next year.

Maybe we should start a pool for whoever can hatch 20 ball pythons from a single clutch first? Maybe paternity testing will be available soon and a common mom could be proven that way. Between yours, and monsters I’ve read about Tracy Barker having and seen posts by it think it was a J. Moore from the Chicago area there are some monsters out there that I think could do it eventually.

I watched a video online of Prehistoric Pets hatching 18 retics from 8 eggs.

That's madness.

Grant:

I also have a 5200 gram normal female, but it doesn't look like she is going to clutch this year. I bred her to a pied and a mojave.

Last year she layed 15 eggs, but only 8 were viable.

Congratulations on such a huge clutch and good luck with the rest of your season.
