A Couple that Stayed

RussBates May 09, 2008 07:16 PM

As some of you know I sold off my breeding collection of thayeri. There were a few from 2007 that I just couldn't let go of for one reason or another (great colors, awesome feeder females..etc). The pic below is of one female that caught my eye immediately out of the egg. She has a really neat pattern and great coloring. I decided to raise her up and pair her with an extremely nice yellow leonis I held back. We'll see what happens in 2009/10.

and another female...classic...but a very strong feeder and much larger than the rest of her clutchmates.

Hi Russ,

Nice snakes, especially the first one. I agree with your strategy of holding back animals with a strong feeding response - it's a good trait to select for. Personally I don't see much sense in producing beautifully colored/patterned snakes if they won't eat and then fail to thrive. Except perhaps to breed them with the good feeders to try and get better color/pattern genes into your collection's gene pool.

Have fun, man!

Tom

Below is a female I bought from you earlier this year. She is a great feeder (as is the male).

couldn't agree more Tom. Glad you are enjoying yours. That one is looking great!
