What's up with the screen? Is that for cleaning purposes? If so it is a good idea.

That's exactly it. It keeps them up off of the substrate and it also gives them traction as well as something to shed on. If you mist them, they’re not sitting in water.
I really like it.
Plus, you can see where I cut a spot in the corner to hold the water bowl in place.
