SURPRISE! Timor Egg(s)

captnemo May 09, 2008 09:31 PM

I got home tonight and was checking on the kids, and look what I found! On top of our Timor girl's hide was an infertile egg. Upon opening the lid, I found her incubating a newly laid clutch.

I just aquired this pair from Joe Yakelis this past fall, and wasn't expecting much due to the move from Hellfire in Pittsburgh all the way to NJ, but it was nice to see something happen (I'd actually given up on them for this year).

Of the 10 eggs, only 1 looks viable, but she was busy incubating all but the one she discarded, so I'm going to incubate them all and hope for the best.

Fingers crossed!

One is better than none! Congrats! Normal incubation period on them?

My thoughts exactly! I guess now I know why she didn't look gravid. This is my first time with Timors, and to my knowledge the incubation period is 60-70 days...I'll keep you posted!

Mike,
Curious as to the length and ages of your adult Timors. Also, that female is one of the nicer Timors I have seen.

You Bastard!!!!

Well all look bad save one. But you never know. I have a severe nipple deformed egg here with good veins on my rat snakes. I believe the egg will go down but this is the first time I had a viable egg with a severe nipple and no calcium on the shell. Too bad there isn't a way to stop it from rotting and save the viable embryo. I know it's viable and will die from the amount of shell not calcified. Almost wanted to get that liquid band aid and try it out (laughs)

But the good thing is you now know their rhythm and can properly cycle them for next year and have a chance at a better outcome. Plus do not forget they are a breeding pair as well. You should still be doing the happy dance if you ask me

Thanks, Kelly. Although I don't recall their exact age, they are around 10 years old give or take. The female is about 8-9', while the male is a slender 6-7'.

Mike, Kelly asked the question I was going to ask. Mine are the same size, but younger, about 4. I think the need to be 6-7 yrs old for the female to breed.

Mike congratulations! That's great you are a hero in my book! I can only get mine to breed every year but don't get an ovulation from the female and they are over 12 years old. I would be so so happy to get even one egg! LOL

I've always been impressed by the great success you've had with some of the more difficult species, so that means alot! I can't take full credit, though, as I acquired them as a proven pair...only a matter of time before you've got a nice healthy clutch on the ground I'm sure!
