5200 on 16 Egg Clutch

lavenderalbino May 10, 2008 12:33 AM

Here are a couple of pics of this big girl with her 16 egg clutch. All eggs are large and fertile. I miscounted when ultrasounding this girl and thought that there were 17 eggs, but it is hard to be disappointed with 16 eggs weighing 1896 grams. That is an average of 118.5 grams per egg for a 16 egg clutch!!!

I love the pics of her coiled around her eggs! I know if I had a huge clutch there would be plenty of pics too! At least yours is the real deal and not like some of these guys who add extra eggs for a picture...

Wow. I hope some of my females grow that big one day.

I have high hopes for a little Ghana female I have. She's quadrupled in size since I got her last year.

Incredible. Do you think she will put the weight back on for next season?

First of all...congrats on the great clutch!

I saw a post on a forum where someone got 14 eggs totalling almost 1500 grams from a 2800 gram female...is this possible?

Yeah, I think a 1500 gram clutch from a 2800gram female is pushing the upper limit but I don't think it is abnormal for a females clutch to weigh 40%-50% of her normal body weight. This particular female is such a toad that she still weighed right at 3000 grams skinny as a rail right after laying her clutch.

The egg clutch tends to be pretty close to 1/3 of the pre lay weight. The number of eggs can very from year to year depending on the size they decide to make them but the % of weight tends to be fairly consistent. I wonder if the reported 1,500 grams of eggs from a 2,800 gram girl was reporting the after laying weight of the girl and she was 4,300 grams before?

ghireptiles May 11, 2008 04:06 PM

She was reportedly 2500 at the begining of the season but from the pic I saw it looked like there were extra eggs from another clutch added because of the way she was only coiled around a portion of them. I am no ball breeding king but I can't see a female that size popping out 14 eggs weighing 1500 grams. Maybe I am also skeptical because it's Tim Bowles that's claiming this. He also said she was ultrasounded and that she had 11 in her. But if it's true...that's great congrats to him for 14 eggs. Here's a link...tell me what you think:

I'm happy for you, but that depresses me. Your big hoss had more eggs than I have snakes in my collection!!! My collection is about to grow considerably though in the next 2 months!! One 9 egg clutch and 3 more on the way. Congrats again on a personal record!
