Question on travel w/shedding snake

swallowedthefly May 10, 2008 07:24 AM

My snake is going into its second shed and its first since I've owned it. The timing is unfortunate because my little cousin is having a birthday party on sunday and I told her I would bring it. I'm worried, however, that bringing little Rita along might cause her excess stress since she's about to shed. Am I right to be concerned and do I have to let down my cousin? Your advice is appreciated.

Handling or traveling with the snake is not a big deal. The worst that will happen is the skin will tear and it will come off in pieces not in a whole piece.

However snakes can't see very well before they shed which makes them nervous. Even friendly snakes sometimes bite during this time if they get scared. So maybe the timing isn't the best to have tons of people handling it.

I appreciate the feedback. Fortunately Rita went ahead and solved my problem by completing her shed just a few minutes ago. Thanks though.
