without taking the time to dig up records here are some recollections of clutch size ranges that I have experienced.......

P.c.pumilus 3-8
P.m.lodingi 5-12
P.d. deppei 13-25
P.d.jani 10-27!
P.l.lineaticollis 15-27!
P.m.melanoluecus 5-13
P.ruthveni 3-7
P.c.sayi 8-17
P.c.vertebralis 5-9
P.c. bimaris 5-10
P. c. catenifer (never bred this group)*
P. c. deserticola 3-8*
P. m. mugitus 4-9
P.c.annectans 5-11
P.c.affinis 4-10 *

* I only have a small bit of experience breeding these and would like to hear what clutch sizes other folks have gotten from them

Generaly speaking I think that the clutch sizes remain relatively constant among the various 5 species (catenifer, melanoluecus, ruthveni, lineaticollis, deppei), however I am sure that there is variation among individuals and it goes without saying that well fed captives probably out perform their wild counterparts. It will be interesting to discover what clutch sizes are produced by the gibsoni form of lineaticollis given there is ever any breeding success.

Thanks for posting those numbers John. Man that's one large clutch of d. jani (27) and d. deppei (25). I'll be the first in line for a book when you write one. Randy

Hey John, Last year I caught this gravid Affinis in Prescott and she laid 17, all fertile, all hatched and released at capture site. My captive bred albinos have never laid more than ten.

My Northern has averaged 18 eggs per clutch over the years. 24 eggs once, all hatched. She even double clutched once. This year she is 16 years old and laid 16 eggs, 11 looked good, five slugs. Sadly, all 11 went bad: not fertile.

I've had 30 sized clutches from a couple of unrelated in the past. Without checking my records, I know I've got 32 from a snow bull and MORE than that from the "famous" Weissman albino bull in her first clutches of the year. She was a monster, though. One of her daughter was amazing with 27 eggs laid at less than 2 years old. Her dad, though, was the brother (and mate) to the clutch of 32 snow bulls. It's just a very productive line. Clutch sizes of 24-26 in some sayi lineages isn't all that uncommon, but a pleasant occurrence.
