Congats Joe-I think both our females are gravid now-the first one we got last year is in her prelay shed....

Nice Brad,
I've got one more female that should be less than 10 days away from laying. That first female went at 14 days past pre-lay shed.

The first female looks really good for laying yesterday. I'm going to feed her and try again. I didn't plan on trying to double her, but she fed all the way through so it doesn't look like it's going to be a problem at all. We'll see.

Thanks Jeff,
This pair was found approx 1 mile south of the mother of your baby. I have one more pair going from about the same distance north of where the mother of your baby was found.

Great looking hogs!

How hard have you found these guys to acclimate? I've had a lot of experience with other species of tricky feeders, but thus, far have stayed away from these guys. Is a particular size / age cutoff that is more likely to adapt to captive conditions and accept a rodent diet?

brhaco May 12, 2008 07:34 AM

Both the females we collected last years adapted to a domestic rodent diet from day one. In fact, they will take hopper mice or crawler rats live or frozen with gusto-no scenting at all was ever needed! Much easier than other hogs I've worked with.

my experience is much the same. Most all of the juvies and females take off with gusto. I do have one or two adult males that are "still adjusting" 10 months into captivity, but I have a larger sample and IMO that was to be expected.

Everything we bred are super mouse feeders from the get go, males and females.

Have you guys that collect Kennerlyi ever have any problems w/ parasites? I'm heading to AZ to see if I can find some south AZ locality H.n. Kennerlyi.
