Ontogenetic Change In Albino Nelsoni.

Dan_W May 11, 2008 04:10 AM

I'm aware that some Nelsoni develop bright yellow bands. I've had 4 Nelsoni over the years, and all have been the white banded version, even as mature adults.

When do Nelsoni become yellow banded, if they are programmed to be so, and approximately what percentage of them become yellow?

Thanks!

Dan

In my experience if the parents have yellow bands the babies have a better chance of developing them. At the same time I have gotten normal wide banded babies from high yellow narrow banded adults. If they are going to get the yellow banding it is my experience that it will usually develop within the first 2 years and most of the time sooner. I have several hold backs of last years pin banded babies here and they are developing the yellow bands as well as getting lots of yellow infused in the red on thier sides......Joe

I have 3 males - all very different.

One - "normal" - red & white
One - huge bright orange - some yellow
One - Very red - lots of yellow - bullseye pattern

Don't need three males but they are so different I like having all three.
