I got a question, when the eggs come out are they soft and then become hard and then how long do you wait till you move them to the incubator?

exposito May 13, 2008 07:54 AM

Terry, that is a great looking clutch, especially with what may hatch out of it. Good luck!

Anthony, most good eggs come out looking bright white in color and are fairly rigid, as opposed to slugs that will come out in kind of a tan to gold color and will be very soft most of the time. We usually give the snake a few days to uncoil on her own before removing the eggs and even then you need to check her to make sure that she has gotten them all out. The female in the pic is in the middle of pushing her eggs out.

I m glad you answered i would like to ask you a question about the female honduran ghost I purchesed from you earlier two weeks ago,do you think she will be able to breed next season I mean for her size right now being at it is? reason why i ask is because i have a total of six variations of the honduran milk snake right now which is all around her size.

exposito May 13, 2008 01:07 PM

Anthony, I think that would pushing it. Some will breed at two years old, but that has not been the norm in our experience. Most seem to be ready by three and some have not gone until they were four. I think power feeding to get one ready in two years is a mistake that can lead to other health problems. We plan on three years and on the occassion that we have had one ready at two, we consider it a bonus. Good luck!

I think you should have some very decent odds with that many eggs Terry! Good luck with the rest of the eggs on their way!

Thanks everyone for all the nice words and coments ,I am excited as everyone else ,I bred the nice hypo #39 to 7 females this time ,3 have dropped good eggs so far, I let him rest two day between breedings and bred him at least twice to each female .He still showed viable sperm after over 17 breedings .He wasn't this good last year as far as having viable sperm ,after about 6 matings ,his sperm production was very low .He was larger this year . And he breeds like an animal even in shed
