My ball python recently contracted some sort of dermatitis on his belly scales and partially on his tail. I went to take him out of the cage to clean up and found that he was partially stuck to the bottom of the cage (he began crawling underneath the "Reptile Carpet" and bark substrate sitting on the glass bottom)and that a sticky foul fluid was there (prabably puss and excrement, no feces were present). I'm guessing he had excreated waste and sat in that same spot then bacteria or somesort of fungus infected his skin. He was near his heater but not directy on it to cause any sort of burn.
I quickly cleaned and changed the substrate to newspaper and applied antibiotic ointment after washing the area gentley with a cloth. It seems to have gotten better and dried up a lot, but now he'starting to shed in response, which I'm concerned about.
I could use someone's opinion on this on what else I can do in the meantime, or what I can tell my vet or get from him. Thanks.
