What kind of snake is this?

Leucophylla May 12, 2008 08:51 PM

My brother got this little guy off a fairly busy road and he/she is a very friendly snake (a little nervous but not aggressive.)The first picture is a little dark because I didn't use flash. I live in Alabama if that helps figure out what kind of snake this is. Thanks everyone!

That's a harmless juvenile Gray Ratsnake. Only if you live in the northeast portion of the state, can it have any possible genetic influence from the Black Ratsnake.

I do live in the northern part of the state but it looks just like the picture you posted. I'm glad to know what it is now. Thanks so much for the help DMong!

Just as I'm ready to post you do. Whats up with that...LOL. Are you going to the little local show coming up in June? If so drop by and see me....TC

LOL!!,....too funny!, I know how it is sometimes getting a reply in before the next guy..haha!

I'll definitely try to make it down for that one,...it was really fun chatting with you at the last show there in Lauderdale!.....what is the date on that show, so I can mark it down on the calendar?.... I've got some interesting stuff to talk to you about when I see you.

Hope all your animals and projects are doing well at your place. I got a kick out of looking at a bunch of very old pics on Kathy Love's site recently with you and the bunch MANY years ago opening up freshly imported bags of snakes and such, man!, those were the good ol' days!..LOL!

anyway, let me know about the show date, and I'll try to get down there.

take care, Tom!, ~Doug

It's an aberrantly patterned hypomelanistic Honduran Milksnake(Lampropeltis triangulum hondurensis).

Glad you like the crazy pattern on the little guy as well!

best regards, ~Doug

What's not to like about that guy?! Looks like a candy cane... not only figuratively, but literally for my pet snake...

Thanks,
Ed

Your snake will probably look something like this as an adult. Seen yesterday in Jackson County, Alabama.
