ChristopherD May 13, 2008 12:08 PM

anyone know what the little "Carion Fly" is called so i can research and possibly eradicate them.
They seem to love melted pinkies and snake poop, and have now moved into my kitchen

I have used blue fly bait in a beer can with a little brew(word of advice Crush the beer can so it aint accidently sipped

or a bread bag with a melted pinky or 2 .Let sit overnight open in the snake room then quickly close the bag and tie it

any other ideas will be greatly appreciated...........Chris

I would imagine that flypaper strips, like the ones you pull out like camera film and hang up would help a great deal. But the best way to keep them at bay, is to keep the cages as free of feces as possible at all times. Otherwise, those little bastards seem to find a way in no matter what!..LOL!

Fly strips didn't attract them for me.

I use something called an EZ trap--its yellow and sticky and has a lot of usable area.

Google them--the prices were varied.

It works great for me--I stole the idea from a breeder friend who has been doing this for 30 years!

They come in 2 packs!

Sanitation is the best ,as you know those lil bas'Tarde's will multiply quick especially if you use too big of a poop bag(Trash)and dont take it out within a couple days.....C

that is exactly what they are called. I had them real bad the last two years. I discovered that when I stopped using moss, I stopped getting the fly larvae. I have not seen even one this year.
I found them by doing research on carion fly or fungus gnat

I have only had a problem with them 2 times since I started keeping snakes and it was do to bad husbandry, After becoming more diligent on removing wast from the cages and the house they have yet to come back, When spot cleaning cages the wast goes right outside in the trashcan.
