toys for my snake

jtclark Aug 31, 2003 01:34 AM

i have a new corn and wanted to know the best way to setup the tank. i have a hide and dish and put a branch with leaves in today when i put the snake in the cage. he seems to really like climbing and hiding in the branch and leaves but i don't know if this is the best thing to do. is artificial better or is it cool to keep putting in fresh greens from the woods next to my apartment?

hmmmm, it's a lot better and cheaper to get branches from the woods next to your apartment. Because you can also choose exactly what you want and it's kinda fun since you know you found it yourself =).

Just remember to use like a box cutter knife to kinda cut off the bark or rough parts....thats what I did.....and then after you do that, put it in like a pail and soak it with boiling hot water and add bleach.....if you can, leave it over night but make sure all parts of the branch gets soaked in it. After that, Rinse it all in cold water and let it dry in the sun. And as for leaves, BUY artificial...the plants made by exo-terra out of silk is a good choice. They are easy to clean and look good.

IF you want, you could bake it.....but once you let it dry in the sun, it's already really safe =)

(I myself just got branches the other day...and boy...my corn really loved climbing around it, he looked like a tree boa or something lol)

Good Luck.

If you have a river or ocean nearby you can find driftwood.I go out after the floods we have here and find some pretty neat looking stuff..
