My leos, what do you all think???

mizzougdigirl2 May 13, 2008 08:41 PM

Below are my first two leos. The hypo is a female, hatched 10/07 and the Mack Snow is a male, hatched 11/07. I understand genetics fairly well, but am trying to get the hang of gecko genetics. What are the phenotypes I'm likely to get if I cross the two? I'm planning on getting a female snow to breed this coming winter and I guess I'll probably get a male yellow hypo. My girl is around 37 grams and the boy is 36, is this about right for their age? Thanks in advance to all who reply!

snow, hypo, normal, and hypo snow. breed snow back to snow and you will then get 25% supersnow with all black eyes.

Since mack snow is a co-dominant mutation and hypo/tang. is a polygenic mutation you have two possible phenotypical outcomes when breeding that pair. You will statistically hatch half that are snows in the heterozygous form that have a reduced black pigment from the mothers hypo influence and the other half will not be expressing the snow gene but will have a hypo influence from the mother(probably not as reduced black as the mother since the male is heavily spotted), all outcomes from breeding hypo animals being highly variable in black pigment. There was a post of a baby hypo snow a ways down the page to give you an idea of how the nicer offspring may look as hatchlings. Your geckos look pretty and healthy by the way!

Sorry I'm not answering your question, but I just wanted to say that the gecko on the left is gorgeous! The coloration is amazing.
