room temps

brick1 May 13, 2008 10:50 PM

ok cant find where we talked about this before. But i said that i didnt think that i could get the temps in my snake room below a certain temp. Well i have managed to find the specific heating pipe to that room, and have managed to make a dramatic reduction in the temp for the room. (remember its a new apartment, and wasnt that easy to find!! hidden behind an in build cupboard, and written in finnish)

Now when i do try and pair up my big girls later in the year, what happens to the other snakes, seeing that i will have to reduce the temp for the whole room? how will it affect them. As i guess even the young ones in there small boxes, will still have the ambient temp not near there heat mat drop aswell

ah so many questions

Hence the need for multiple thermostats. Keeping the room warmer decreases the load on all the individual heating elements. Making the room cooler for the breeding season will cause the hest elements on the cages/racks not being cooled to work harder to maintain temps. Could make for larger temp gradients inside the cages but not a big deal.

In the wild all would see the canges in seasonal temps and the babies would cool down as well. In captivity there is no need for that (at least none that I know of).
