My new lil' critter... and I mean little!

nevadaHTfan Aug 31, 2003 04:45 AM

Hi... I am very new to this forum, but have been a huge fan of "horny toads" since I was a child. I live in Northern Nevada, where they are as prolific as sand... I am sorry they don't inhabit the rest of the states as well. My husband just caught this little guy, girl... can't seem to figure out how to post Inchy's picture here on the post. Any help would be appreciated on that. I thought you might like to see this little fella, so if you would like to see the picture you can check out Inchy's little page. My sister was awesome at catching lizards as a child, and we used to always want to keep them, course at the time, we didn't know they basically lived on ants. I love the internet! Found this forum, and an Ant supplier in less than five minutes. I am hoping I can finally keep a horned lizard as a "pet"! I am very excited!

Gosh, I really messed up on that one... got the address for the little guy messed up... it should be fixed now. My name is Keesha, by the way, and I wish all your little horned toads well.

Yours is huge compared to mine! I am hoping to see Inchy grow that big. Glad you liked him. Thank you for showing me your new little lizard... I saw the posts earlier with its pics... really liked the one of him in your hand.

Hi NevadaHT(HL?)fan,

Here is a link to the How to for this forum.
It's pretty simple. Hit the "Preview" button before you post it just to make sure you have it right.

Cheers!

Thank you for the link to the Help page. Yes, I know I have it as HT instead of HL... I grew up calling them Horny Toads, and I guess old habits die hard. Also, was noticing that Inchy seems a little slow... thinking he needs a herp light, but was unsure of the wattage I need to get for him. I don't want to cook him for the cats! Well, again thank you for your help.

Yes you do need a herp light, it is essential that they get UVA/B light. For mine I keep it about 100 on one end of the cage and about 70-80 in the other end, although for your little guy I am not too sure. They need to heat up in order to eat and digest properly.

Thank you for that info, I gave the little guy my fish tank light for now, I am going to go to the store tomorrow and find him his own light. When I put the light on one end of his cage he sat under it for an hour or so... just basking. He was looking at me like "Its about darn time", too. Already intergrated himself in the brood. Again thank you for the help...
