Emergency!!what to do for a new collared

collaredsguy May 14, 2008 01:36 PM

hi everyone i found a new male to replace my beloved stevie, but i need to know what i should do when i get him.Hes coming from florida and hes a wild cought so Should i quarentine him? should i bring him to a vet and make sure hes healthy? is their anything i can do like deworming him and stuff? should i introduce him to my female (after wuarintine of course). The dealer told me hes a big boy and really healthy, but im taking that with a grain of salt. i havent bought him yet but plan on it by 2:00pm so any fast feed back would be good!! ive seen pictures and he looks pretty healthy, not to mention he looks similar to my stevie. well!! there you go!! emergency responses!!

Well I hope the purchase goes well and you get what you paid for. As far as what to do with the new guy in the terrarium, definetly put him into quaranty as far as a time frame I think 30 plus days is advisable. Yes, take him to a vet to get him all checked out to make sure there's no plumbing issue's and no parasites. Plus, I would re-hydrate him when you get him from the shipping company, perhaps a nice little soak in some room temperature water, nothing above his neck.

hey i got the new collared today. seems like this guy has seen alot of summers. maybe thats good for breeding purposes? hes got some scares, that i didnt know were scares, until i picked them...opps. im gonna put neosporin on them. hes also a little bloated. not sure what that means. maybe gas or impaction, idk? need some help with that. hes a good collared, easy to handle, not as easy as stevie, and lizzy is tame compared to this guy, but he is wild cought. i gave him a bath and hes in his own tank. i had to take lizzy's UVB away from her. gonna see if i can get a MVB at the store. i figured he needed it more as he may not be as healthy as she is. my only concerns about him is that he looks bloated, and his tail is kinda skinny. i gave him a baby oil bath, and water, i think i got all the mites, but im not sure? maybe i'll do it again. hes a good looking male so we'll see.
