Virginia locality Northern pines

viandy May 14, 2008 03:44 PM

I was recently asked if I could obtain any shed skins from Virginia locality northern pines by somehow who's doing a DNA study of this species. I thought I would be able to find one through friends at a nature center but they all turn out to have been collected in North Carolina. If any of you can get a shed that is from a Virginia northern pine, please let me know.

It is my understanding that Northern Pines havent been seen in Va for many many years. Maybe even 20 plus though I cant say for certian. Its posible that road kills have been spotted but I dont think anyone has had any luck finding live animals.

Again, I could be wrong. I would check with the Virginia Herpetological Society and see if they can give you any info / pointers. John White used to be the pres or atleast in charge of the website and is a super nice guy. If he has any verified leads he will definately be willing to help.

BTW, hoes that patternless northern doing?? *Drool*

Well, im off to AZ!! :-D Wish me luck!

Take care bud,

J

I know that Howie Sherman (elaphopeltishow) saw
one in Western Virginia a few years back. You might want to check with him.

I remembered that, sent him an email before I posted this but haven't heard back (hint hint). I guess I'll try somebody else from the Virginia Beach crew to see if I can get word to him.
Thanks!

I am a member of the Virginia Herpetological Society and to my knowledge there has been no mention of one being seen, dead or alive, since I've been there. I'll send out some feelers but they are very secretive/protective about certain species. I'll let you know if I find out anything.
