Jasper "missed" when I was feeding him last week.

He refused to let go until I ran water over his face for a while.

My Pele used to do that all the time when she was a baby. For a few months! It took her forever to eat. Too funny! Gorgeous Snake though, even if he is a dummy

waspinator421 May 14, 2008 10:44 PM

LOL, yeah I've had a few other make this mistake too, but never to this degree. It's usually a bite and.. oops! Then they let go. This guy would not release! I gave him a few minutes to figure it out on his own, but he just sat there like that. When I went to mess with him he just bit harder. So, off to the sink we went!

I had one last week that missed and bit my tongs, which isn't that unusual in it of itself, but he constricted them and wouldn't let go. Rather than fight him, I just gave him the tongs and went to do something else for a while. I use rubber tipped tongs in case they do that, but I've never seen one constrict the tongs, it was too funny!

Great pictures, that is hilarious. I always enjoy feeding time, always a good possibility of some comic relief. Just a few days ago I accidentally dropped the lizard out of the forceps, and it took Jack a few minutes to finally zero in on it. But when he struck, he struck at the balled up paper towel next to the lizard. He was thrashing the paper towel around like he does with the anoles.

Great looking BRB, btw. Beautiful.

Thanks for the laugh,
Ed

Normally I just lurk this board since I don't actually have any BRBs (my brother has a pair & I think they're beautiful), but this story reminded me of my crested gecko. I actually saw her miss a cricket and end up eating some of her paper towel substrate once, and that wasn't the only time that she's tried, quite vigorously, to attack it when she misses a cricket. She usually doesn't succeed in tearing off chunks though. Thankfully she seems to have passed it through her system w/o getting impacted or anything. So much for paper towels being a completely "safe" substrate, eh?

My little BCI does that every week. He drags the mouse around his cage for an hour sometimes before he eats it. I even saw him toss it up in the air before. Talk about playing with your food!

medyssa May 14, 2008 11:25 PM

I cant say too much because both Dudette and Cherry have done this a couple times each recently. Dorks. I always worry that they will try to eat themselves!

An ouroboros is that greek symbol of a snake eating it's own tale. It represents infinity.

Jeff Clark May 15, 2008 02:57 PM

And ouroboros syndrome is another name for "circular causation". One thing causes another which causes another which causes another which causes the first thing that got the circle started.

Aubry,
Often reading these forums I can't help but think many hobbyist regard their snakes as nothing more than animated hunks of meat. I've always thought otherwise. Then I saw your picture....
Good one,
Paul

waspinator421 May 16, 2008 12:57 PM

LOL, I've never thought of them as hunks of meat, but I guess Jasper thought it of himself!
