POLL: VPI CARAMEL ALBINO X SHARP ALBINO?

Tracy Barker May 14, 2008 08:28 PM

OK, it is time to put your predictions in about how this cross will go. I bred a female Sharp albino x male VPI caramel albino. Due date any time now. Please write prediction and if you have any, reasons you came to the conclusion! Thanks! Tracy

Honestly I just want this question answered and over with! Will they be incompatible and will we see normal "double het" babies; will we have a similar interaction to what is seen with the "Boa Woman Hypo" x Sharp resulting in the "Paradigm" boa, as proven by Mike Weitzman of Basically Boas. I personally have not a clue and can honestly say I don't even have any inclination or feeling of how it will turn out-I just couldn't give a rationale either way!! Hopefully these babies will be good and we theoretically just need for the first one to come out to know the answer!

whitneywee May 14, 2008 08:42 PM

I'm betting you'll get the equivalent of the paradigm, although the vpi caramel is clearly not the same gene as the boawoman caramel. I think it will be more interesting if you don't get the paradigm equivalents, though. Mark

Not long ago I wanted and thought this would work
out favourably.I'm not so sure now.Lar M

I'm going to guess they will result in double hets. Only reason I say that is, it's a guess

Good luck with that, I look forward to seeing the results.

Chris Nicholas and I were talking about this just the other day. I say yes, he says no! LOL
I DO think you will get an outcome very similar to the Paradigms. I have a few 100% Het VPI Caramels and they resemble quite a few ParaHets and Het Caramels I have.
I anxiously await the outcome!
Good luck!

I have to agree with Mike. Regardless, the babies should be very interesting.

I'm counting on it! I hope we all find out soon. It's gonna help me with my pairings this upcoming season. I will also be putting my European line T to a Sharp animalthis up coming season to try to prove the outcome will be the same with that also. Tracy, have you thought about what your gonna name them when the pop out?

jerseyserpents May 14, 2008 11:20 PM

I think they will produce a new morph OR another line of paradigm, I have no idea how the naming process goes.
BUT, and it's a big BUT, if they are in fact compatible, what about CA T 's and Argie T 's??
Logically they'd all work! ! !

I think you'd get paradigm.

ajfreptiles May 15, 2008 06:45 AM

I think you will get something very close to the Paradigm look.

If it proves to be compatible, then why not put the paradigm X vpi t-pos ?

boaphile May 15, 2008 06:54 AM

I think you are going to have to figure out if you come up with a new name or what. After what happened with the Sharp and the Moore Caramel, it just seems like that's what is going to happen. I can see where part of you hopes that is what happens because you are going to see what those new combo babies look like right away. Then again part of you hopes they are different because Double Hets would still leave us longing to know what they will look like in the next generation.

Either way, whether we see them in days or in two years,I think they will ultimately lean toward the looks of the Paraglow with nearly no black influence. Yet just enough to set them apart from your regular Sharp Albinos.

Regardless, it is going to be exciting to see! I'm right with you. I am really looking forward to those too!

then logically the boawoman and VPI caramels would be compatible as well, yes? hmmm..... Either way, exciting project, post pictures of the very first one the second it pops out, please!

Either way thank you Tracy for doing the research for us! Have people considered test breedings involving the Kahl strain or do we believe that the kahl strain is tyrosinase negative and likely do not share a gene with any t. pos mutations? If sharp and vpi caramel are compatible then you can probably make a new snake crossing boa woman x vpi but if those offspring all come out normal then we will all have headaches and will have to spend a bunch of money on fancy calculators. Are there salmon vpi caramels yet?

ajfreptiles May 15, 2008 12:07 PM

I saw somewhere that someone had already produced them and also was selling them..

Which one? kahl x vpi or vpi x boa woman. oh, and i guess it would make sense that the person that proved kahl and sharp to be incompatible also proved that boawoman x kahl wont produce an ultramel too.

ajfreptiles May 15, 2008 12:46 PM

I am sorry they were Salmon Het for VPI Caramel.

We have been wondering about this cross for quite some time now... Jeremy and I both feel that something similar to what happened with the paradigm is going to happen. We may see some form of a visual double het... What it will look like is the big question. Whatever happens here I am sure it will be very interesting.
We are waiting on a T pos female to drop that we breed to a Sharp sunglow...
