Frozen Mice

mizzougdigirl2 May 15, 2008 11:01 AM

I am trying to get my corn snake to eat frozen mice, because I have to drive a ways to get live mice for him. I tried moving it around with a pair of tongs, I tried just setting it down, he sniffed it but that was about it. I left it in there for about 10 minutes. I thaw and warm mouse in a bag with warm water, he seems almost frightened by it. The last I fed him was about a week and a half ago. Should I wait a little longer and see if he gets hungry enough to eat it? Anyone have any suggestions?

I would skip the plastic bag and warm it right in water.

Then--use a pin or scissors to poke a little hole in the mouse head. Apparently brain gravy is irresistable.

Best of luck!

Since it has only been a week and a half I wouldn't worry too much.

If you want though you can try the following:

Try placing the f/t mouse in a small container with the snake.
You can then place the container in the snake's cage, turn off the heat lamp first. You can also leave the container in the cage overnight.

Or wash the mouse in ivory soap.

Try stopping by a pet store and see if they will give you a little bedding out of a mouse's cage. After you thaw out the mouse, give it a little "shake and bake" action with the bedding and them offer it. I tried everything else and this finally worked.
