She finally dropped!! Pics & story...

Shane Kinney May 15, 2008 06:14 PM

Ok, I bred a motley X 2004 Burke produced Lipstick line albino female and she finally dropped a nice litter of motley het albinos, normal het albinos, 7 slugs, and no stills 140 days after ovulating and 118 days post ovulation shed! If she had a second ovulation, I missed it and her ovulation that I witnessed was pretty big and obvious! She did feed during gestation, did not have an intermediate shed, she did go into heat conservation coils and thermoregulate regularly, and she looked good all along, but she just didn't want to drop those babies! She did have a pre birth stool. It goes to show you these girls don't always follow the "rules/book".

Now for a little story of patience and persistence, which many boa breeders know all too well.
This is my 4th year trying to produce motleys and now I've had 2 motley litters in less than 24 hrs. At 18 months old my motley(Norman Jr.) showed absolutely no interest in the ladies even though he had good size and the females were ready and ended being bred by somebody else. Next year at 2.5 years old Norman Jr. bred immediately and aggresively getting 2 nice normal females prego. The first big girl was my nicest and biggest virgin normal female and she died from pregnancy complications full of babies. The 2nd normal female was proven by me the previous year and was bigger now. She gave 14 slugs and 12 normal babies... no motleys!! Last year Norman Jr. bred a "PC" possible super salmon who became prego and also died from pregnancy complications full of babies. He also bred a sunglow female that I produced and raised from day 1. She gave a litter of slugs, stills, a couple normals, and 2 male motleys het albino(one hypo)who are doing great and are quite strong. That brings us up to the present. As many of you know breeding boas can really test your patience among other things! If you're still with me... onto some pics already!! I love baby boas and goo!!

Thanks for looking. I can't wait to see some hypo(red devil) super motleys and sunglow super motleys.

Now, Tracy lets see those Sharp X VPI T pos babies!!

Wow, that is a nice litter. It's a shame you've had so many trials and tribulations, but something to celebrate now! Congrats.
