Nigh temps

waldo May 16, 2008 09:44 AM

Hope I'm note driving everyone insane with all my questions LOL.

What is the lowest night time temps a mali can handle? I really don't like to use lights/heat emitters at night and my house gets down to 65*
I can put in a small UTH or hot rock and hook it up to a retrostat if needed.

Well, from what I understand, they can tolerate temps in the mid sixties, but it takes them longer to get going during the day.

I would not use any under tank heaters or heat rocks. There have been serious injuries associated with heat rocks, especially in reptiles that mostly sense heat from above. I have even seen snakes with heat rock burns. Why would you not want a heat emitter but would use the other two? Heat emitters work great, and you can probably get by with a fairly low wattage if the viv is in your house. Mine are all in an unheated sun room.

I order to use a heat emitter, I would have to drag the viv outside and cut out more hole to make room for a dome fixture and I don't want to do that.
I know about thermal burns, thats why I would hook the UTH up to a retrostat.
