humidity help

strangelysara May 16, 2008 11:18 AM

hi i'm new the site. i have a young female mali named flap jack (we thought she was a boy when we named her, ha). in the past month the humidity in her tank and jumped to 70%. i've heard that they need to be kept in low humidity, but am having a hard time finding a method or product that will bring it down.

i live in a one bedroom apartment with an open floor plan and no closets - so i cannot put her in a separate room with a dehumidifier. i've tried running the AC as much as possible, and buying her a higher wattage day light to increase the heat in her tank - but neither is making a difference.

any advice?

I had aproblem like that in an apartment I used to live in. It wass tough I tried a lot of things, best thing was to crank the AC, add extra heat to compensate, and use an exhaust fan over the cage to suck air upwards and out. Turns out it was really the apartment at fault, I moved and never had the problem again. Some buildings and houses are humid from years of leaky roofs and busted pipes, etc.and you really can't do anything about it.It can be bad for your health as well.I only lived there a very short time there were other problems too. In the days of "REHAB MY HOUSE" and stuff you have to be careful: what looks nice isn't always so.

thanks for the feedback! this building is very old. i'll keep doing what i can with the ac and try a fan. thankfully my lease is up in a month so maybe a move will benefit her!

You will need to give more details on setup for ture opinions from people but also if you have water in the cage take it out they should get enough water from food and make sure cage is well ventilated....
