Hey Dan

Good to see you around. I am still here although I have greatly reduced my presence on this forum as I got tired of the BS that has greatly increased in the last year or two. I am on another forum that caters a bit more to water monitors (Cybersalvator.com).

I had wondered if you ever got back into monitors. What kind of monitor are you thinking of in September? I only have one nile monitor now and that is Sobek, the one I hatched back on April 13, 2001. I had quite a few niles, but had someone watch them while I moved and unfortunately the people would not return them to me, and the monitors have since died. I lost my mangrove monitor with the niles.

I have since switched over to water monitors as my large species. I hatched 10 salvators back in February and March of 2002. I have 3 eggs hatching in the next month, 9-10 hatching in December or January, and 15 that were laid August 20-23 which should hatch in March 2004.

I also have an adult female argus monitor and a little one that I am raising up which will hopefully be a male. I also have some timors, but I see them so rarely that I do not know if they are breeding. lol.

Good luck with the new monitor adventure!!!

Keep in touch!

hi ,bloodbat.i see what you mean about the forum. but it is good to hear from you also . i checked out your web page great photos. i am sorry to hear about the loss of your niles. i know how you must feel.congrats on the breeding thing though.i miss madmax and changing the pond water and cleaning up poop and breeding rats and the whole shabang. why did you switch to waters.they are bigger (thats a big plus)but i would miss the chalenge of gaining a niles trust. to me niles are harder to get them to trust you than any other monitor. although i saw in one of your photos. a pretty good bite on your finger!!! i assume that was a feeding mishap.i will probly get another nile, since komodos are still unavailable. my old nile room is being used for something else. but i do have a room 10 x 12 not in use. and i still have all of maxs old wood and pond supplies. except this time i have an idea for heating the pond water by pumping it through a gas hot water heater.or mabe a spa or hot tub heater.max like his water about 80 degrees or hoter. and i was using two water bed heaters under the linner.hey can you make it to the show in columbus? any way talk to ya later dan

My switch from niles was an easy decision, although it has been a difficult one not to attempt to cheat (do both species).

Basically it started with Mushu, my female salvator. I then picked up a male salvator for a friend who did not want him once I had bought him. So, I ended up with a pair of salvators. After losing my pair of niles I had a pair of salvators waiting to fill that niche in my collection. I had initially planned to do both species but then my nile collection became a casualty in my move to a new state. It was pretty sad too because I had a beautiful metallic blue male and a very high yellow female in addition to a decent looking ornate female and a nice mangrove monitor. All beautiful animals.

After I bought my new house I discovered I actually had less room in it than in my old house. So I chose not to get back into niles and focus mostly on my salvators. I also had a female argus monitor so that was another larger sized species that would need room (working on getting my male up to a good size for breeding). I also have 2 rescue savannahs that take up room. I became impulsive in my desire to work with a smaller species and bought some timors. Niles just do not fit in the mix right now. I hope they do in the future as I do love them. I have been offered at least a dozen niles in the past 2 years or so and have had to pass on all of them. Not an easy thing to do!

I do agree that one of my pleasures working with niles was their temperment. However, Labyrinth, my large male salvator, is much nastier than any nile I have ever kept. Fortunately, that only applies to when he is cornered and caught (when he needs to be removed from Mushu's room so she can lay her eggs in privacy and/or not kill him). Normally, he just flees and hides when he sees me. My niles, except my ornate, always stood their ground. lol. Dragon, the daughter of Mushu and Labyrinth, is much like her father. So, I still get some attitude.

I anticipate having a few more waters in the very near future. Three of them. Not sure of my plans for them yet. I would love to keep all three, but that is probably not going to be feasible. I guess it will depend on whether all three hatch, but the eggs look good.

I doubt I will be able to make Columbus. I live about 425 miles west of where I lived the last time we chatted making Columbus beyond driving distance for a weekend.

Now I hope when you write your article, that your spelling is going to be better than what it is in the forum. Umm..Cirmstantial? lol Perhaps you meant Circumstantial? Come on now. I think even lucien would know how to spell that word. Somehow I doubt your so called article is going to be in wide circulation. But God forbid it is, please remember to use a spell check!
Your welcome!
~Mark the spell checker! a.k.a. mark the dictionary

and don't forget..a komodo dragon's saliva is poisonous!!

If you read through most monitor books, you'll see Mark Bayless mentioned frequently(references). He always comes on here and shares his knowledge generously. I think he could probably outspell you anyday. Ever heard of typos? You're a big clown, begging for attention. You silly little girl.

SavanmanwithaTan Sep 01, 2003 12:39 PM

I'm ok with words that have two syllables, heck, I can even handle three syllable words.. But it's those gosh darn four syllable words that get me every time! Crimstanctial...crap, i mean Cirmstantial...ahhh!!! Circumstantial!! whew. Now don't ask me to pronounce it!

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocius....try that one.

mkbay Sep 01, 2003 01:18 PM

I type to fast, and do not always reread what I say - point noted. As for Komodo dragons being poisonous, they are not. It is the bacteria that secrete the endotoxin and mortality to its prey...the komodo's have a apparent mutualistic relationship with said bacteria species'.

cheers,
mbayless

Thats what is gonna (yeah I said and typed gonna) happen to you if you don't stop acting like a child.

This forum is about monitors so unless you want to talk monitors get out and go type on some other public chat forum. Everything you have talked about is nonsense and is not wanted.

It's kids like you that need a good trip to the wood shed.

Hi, How have you been? I still keep and breed many many species of monitors, but have more larger types. They seem to be easier to breed then the little ones.

I do not attend this forum to often either, instead I post over at varanus.net. There we concentrate of keeping with intent to allow reproduction(include life events). Also we try to stick to reality. That is, what is happening, not would or could or may or whatever is not happening. But I am still not beyond coming over and joining the nonsense. As always, nonsense is lots of fun.

I don't remember what we were concentrating on when you were here last.

I hope you again join in and have some fun. F
